"That's Why I Created You!"

Well, we are off and running here at Deep Hole Ministries. Having been determined to be a tax-exempt (501 c 3) organization by the IRS, creating 90-minute workshops to help our homeless neighbors chart a path for re-entering society, and a successful first fundraiser on Facebook.

Along with generous donations and great ideas on reducing our homeless population by 50% by December 25, 2030, we have had several wonderful inquiries about why this and why now?

Those familiar with my approach to use music to create neural links to concepts like acceptance, forgiveness, atonement, and redemption will not be surprised that music played a role in creating the questions and actions linked to the creation of Deep Hole Ministries, Inc.

Like many of you, I found myself asking how our once beautiful cities have been overwhelmed by homeless populations. And, why people we once knew as part of our world functioning as full members are now on our streets. Why doesn't someone do something?

One day walking in San Francisco I was so overwhelmed I questioned my God, "How can this happen and why do you allow it."

Imagine my surprise as I exited the parking facility headed back to my peaceful, clean suburban neighborhood when Matthew West came on the radio singing his song 'Do Something.' Here are the lyrics that gripped my heart and put Deep Hole Ministries in motion:

"I woke up this morning Saw a world full of trouble now I thought, "How'd we ever get so far down?" And "How's it ever gonna turn around?" So, I turned my eyes to Heaven, I thought, "God, why don't You do something?" Well, I just couldn't bear the thought of People living in poverty, Children sold into slavery. The thought disgusted me. So, I shook my fist at Heaven, I said, "God, why don't You do something?" He said, "I did." Yeah. "I created you."

Matthew West, 'Do Something'

Out of fairness, I should mention that shortly thereafter Steve Darr, the co-author of our book 'Legacy Play: Five Elements of a Lasting Personal Legacy,' asked: What is our legacy? What are we interested it? What is our unique purpose?

So, as we look forward to celebrating our nation's independence please take a moment to remember those who will not celebrate the 4th in the same way. Those who will have no BBQ, no family or friends, and most likely watching the fireworks from a well worn tent or from underneath and overpass. Please remember, that we will not solve the homeless epidemic relying on Government, Politicians, or others to do so. That is why He created you.
